Virabhadrasana = Fierce Mythical warrior
Warrior I is among the first asanas you learn when you start Yoga! It looks pretty easy but once you really start getting into all the details, you realize there are many things going on at the same time. But that's why I love it, you can always improve!Like the title says, Virabhadra is the name of a fierce mythical warrior. You start the pose by standing in Tadasana, then you step your left leg back to 3-4 feet apart. At this point it's good to make sure both your baby toe as well as your heel are flat on the floor (this is is very hard for me but Radha is always there to remind me about it :) !). Meanwhile the right leg stays facing forward, parallel to the sides of the mat. You should also try to keep hips facing forward.Then you bend your right knee to 90 degrees but make sure the knee is in line with your 2nd and 3rd toe. Keep breathing! Finally, lift your arms up, palms facing each other and remember: no rising of the shoulders! Then just relax, gaze forward or up towards your arms and ENJOY!
