Patanjali, “Fallen Angel”, and his Yoga Sutras

Jessi4Our training (Lightrail Yoga Teacher Training) is not only about physical exercise but a combination of the entire philosophy of Yoga. Among them being the study on Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Sutras, or verses, are said to be the first scriptures of Yoga. Patanjali literally means, “Fallen angel”, and they say he came to assist humanity. One of Patanjali´s first sutras gives us the goal of Yoga, “Yogas Citta Vrtti Nirodhah”, and the translation being “the restraint of the modifications of the mind-stuff is Yoga”. Actually, it’s not only the goal of Yoga but also the practice itself. He says that “by controlling the rising of the mind into ripples, you've experienced Yoga. This basically means that if you can control your mind, you have controlled everything.Easier said than done, right? I've realized, however, that only by being aware on how the mind works between the “cittas” (mind-stuff) and “vrttis” (modifications), is already a big step ahead. And going through all that “mind-stuff” is surely is an interesting road! LIGHTRAIL YOGA TEACHER TRAININGhttp://www.lightrailyoga.com/
